Stir-up Sunday is the Sunday immediately before Advent and our every year our custom is to prepare our Church Christmas Cake. The children in our parish feature in this as they all have a turn at stirring up the makings before going to Sunday School. The bowl remains in the chancel and everyone is invited to have a stir on their way to receiving Communion.
This symbolises a “stirring up” of ourselves before the season of Advent with the name coming from the original Collect for this Sunday in the Book of Common Prayer
Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord,
the wills of thy faithful people;
that they, plenteously bringing forth the fruit of good works,
may of thee be plenteously rewarded;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Sunday 4 October was the Feast of St Francis of Assisi and at St Peter's we celebrate this with our annual Pet Blessing Service led by four-legged canine and feline participants assisted by their human servants and presided over by Rev. Faye Davenport.
After singing the traditional and much loved hymns such as All Things Bright and Beautiful and Make Me a Channel of Your Peace, enhanced by several tuneful canine voices; Ann Evans from Canine Friends told her story about this organisation, how it started and testimonies of how many lives have been touched by the dedicated team members and their dogs.
Following this, the moment everyone was waiting for arrived; the Blessing of Pets. After being blessed by the Revs. Faye and Ross, all dogs were lucky enought presented with homemade treats baked by parishioner Caroline Roche.
There was also the opportunity for those who had lost pets to come forward to light candles in rememberance, once again acknowledging the important role our pets play in our lives.
The Service was followed by morning tea, a run around for the canine participants and futher fellowship at Cafe 116.

On Sunday 30 August the 10:00am congregation was treated to Karl Perigo and Robert Cleaver's rendition of "I Walk with God" and they have kindly allowed it to be shared to this site.
Robert is a well-known organist in Palmerston North and plays regularly for St Peter's. Karl sings with Operatunity.

Vicar Stuart Goodin was finally able to have his formal installation as Vicar of the Parish of St Peter on 2 July 2020.
St Peter's celebrated the feast of our Patron Saint St Peter with a choral Eucharist followed by morning tea.
We thank Archbishop Emeritus David Moxon who preached an inspiring, thought-provoking, yet entertaining Sermon. This is now available in our Sermon Archive.
