JESSIE TREE SERVICE
Sunday 10 December at 10am
Most of us have our Christmas Trees up, but do you have at home a Jessie Tree I wonder? Where the Christmas Tree is rightly a tree for Christmas, the Jessie Tree is a tree for Advent which is the four week Season of waiting and preparation prior to Christmas.
The Jesse Tree is named from Isaiah 11:1: "A shoot will spring forth from the stump of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots." The Shoot is a biblical sign of new new-life arising out of the ashes of dispair, which became a way to talk about the expected Messiah (for example, Jer 23:5). It is therefore an appropriate symbol of Jesus the Christ, who is the revelation of the grace and faithfulness of God.
Accompanied by Scripture readings, songs, prayers, and symbolic tree decorations (made by our children and young people), the Jessie Tree is used as a way to tell the Story of God in the Old Testament, and to connect the Advent Season with the faithfulness of God across 4,000 years of history.
We warmly welcome you to come and join us in the experience of this unique Service.
