Welcome to Spirited Elders!
Tena koe. My name is Amy. I am thirty-six years old and live in Palmerston North, New Zealand. I am an Elder-care Community Chaplain. This means I offer spiritual support to older adults, most of whom live with faility and/or dementia, and whom live with residential rest home and hospital communities. This is the field of church ministry I feel particularly called to at this season of my life.
The photo featured above was taken near Ashhurst in the Manawatu (not far from Palmerston North) looking towards the Ruahine National Park and overlooking the Manawatu River.
My family and I enjoy getting in the truck on a Sunday afternoon and going for a drive about the rural area of the Manawatu. I often have my camera ready, and can be heard instructing my husband to "pull over!" when I spot a great shot our four-year-old happily munching on wine biscuits in the back seat. The layers it contains. With the foreground of green, and tree, and white of naked Birch. The river curving through the middle. The sun-kissed paddocks behind. The dark ranges in the back. I thinks it's beautiful. Then again beauty is often easily found when we take the time to look.
Like the multi-layered picture above I hope Spirited Elders too will become something of beauty and inspiration, a useful page with various layers of resource. I hope too it will be a spirited page. A page which runs through its core a thread of hope and good news to all who visit, and especially to older adults living into the late autumn of life and the people who care for them.
